{"id":1118,"date":"2019-05-28T14:49:36","date_gmt":"2019-05-28T14:49:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jigsaw-research.co.uk\/?p=1118"},"modified":"2024-10-17T17:02:56","modified_gmt":"2024-10-17T16:02:56","slug":"my-top-5-community-hacks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jigsaw-research.strat7.com\/us\/blog\/my-top-5-community-hacks\/","title":{"rendered":"My Top 5 Community Hacks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>I often get asked for advice on setting up and running a community \u2013 so I thought I\u2019d share my top five \u2018hacks\u2019 (<em>or hints and tips if you are not a millennial<\/em>).&nbsp; I\u2019d be interested in your comments on these or if you have got any alternative or additional ideas.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Don\u2019t restrict yourself<\/strong>:&nbsp;Communities are a fantastic tool, but can often be even more effective in combination with other methodologies, such as telephone interviews or f2f UX testin<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Know your objectives<\/strong>:&nbsp;are you looking for an \u2018on-tap\u2019 resource to give you quick access to customers for a variety of needs?&nbsp; Or is the main goal of your community to support a specific project such as a new product you\u2019re developing?&nbsp; Long-term and short-term communities require different designs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Small can be beautiful:<\/strong>&nbsp;communities don\u2019t always have to be huge to be effective.&nbsp; 50 to 100 highly engaged participants can deliver a wealth of insights on a longitudinal basis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Incentivise everything:<\/strong>&nbsp;it doesn\u2019t have to be a lot \u2013 but it has to be something. Small incentives for every task work much better than big prize draws<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Avoid embarrassing silences:<\/strong>\u00a0you need to keep the community ticking over to keep people engaged.
